Dr. Joseph Hunter is a native of Jackson, Tennessee. He received his B.S. degree from Union University and his M.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Memphis. Dr. Hunter completed a Family Medicine Residency at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Dr. Hunter is board certified in Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. After 8 years of military service, Major Hunter received an Honorable Discharge and went into private practice in Desoto County in 2008. Dr. Hunter has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee and earned the Residency’s “Excellence in Teaching” Award in 2009. He continues to teach medical students in his private practice and currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor for the University of Tennessee, College of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine and Clinical Preceptor for the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Hunter was voted Desoto County’s “Best Physician” in 2007. Dr. Hunter has been active in various leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels. His professional interests include quality improvement, practice management, preventive medicine, and disease management. Dr. Hunter treats both pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Hunter is married. His wife, Tracy, teaches in Desoto County. He has two daughters.
